In Office 2003, there was an option under tools, data analysis, regression to
do a linear or quadratic analysis. How is this now done under Excel 2007?
(a) the Regression tool always creates a linear combination of the x-range
variables. Of course, the data on the worksheet for one of your x-range
variables could actually be x^2 values, thereby allowing you to fit a
quadratic.
(b) if you create an XY Scatter chart type, the Add Trendline feature allows
linear or polynomial (and other) fits. Polynomial of order 2 is quadratic.
