what command is used to clear a QBE grid. also, in the QBE how is a field
selected to b used in a query. thanks.

Well, if you want to clear the QBE grid you are effectively deleting
the query, so just delete it.
Other than that, you can right click on each table in the query grid
and select Remove table.

To add a field to the query grid, double-click on the field and it
will be added.
