q6600 quad core and xp woes

I have a new machine running q6600 quad-core on and NVIDIA BFG650i ultra Mobo.
after having some compatibility problems with my peripherals, I replaced XP
pro 64 bit with xp MCE from an old boot disc. I have got all my drivers
updated, and dl'd all applicable hot fixes, but my task manager only shows
one core window. my device manager sees all 4 processors, and the BIOS shows
all 4 cores enabled. but when I run the intel cpu utility, it shows 3 cores
disabled. How do I get xp to recognize the other 3 cores.

please help.

The problem I am having here is that you say Device Manager and the BIOS see
all four cores - but the Intel CPU Utility does not - and then you ask how
you get Windows XP to recognize the other three cores when you said the
Windows XP Device Manager already sees all 4 cores.

You also may wish to get this:

It sounds like you missed some drivers and/or have something disabled in the
BIOS. The former of those two is most likely the issue.

I have all of my drivers installed and up to date, My BIOS is set properly.
Still only using one core.

SG- did the search, the only thing I came up with was that my 'hal.dll' and
the associated .exe files needed to be updated to multiprocessor support.
but I can't find a resource to get them from.

grrr.

thanks for the help though.

Hi,

Do a Google search for the words......
Intel utility shows 3 cores disabled on q6600

Several hits I found that may be useful to you.

I've tried 5 different ways of doing that, that I found on other sites. and
this one WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes. I see my happy little cores doin their
thing now! thanks so much. I cant believe that there is not an MS endorsed
solution for this problem.
I took my computer over to the local compusa, and at one point the entire
tech staff was scratching their heads like I was.

thanks again
