Q177266 didn't work - other options?

I am having this exact problem: trying to view the contents of a large
folder is painfully slow (up to three minutes). I've made the change to
SizReqBuf but this did not help.

I've heard that the problem does not exist if one binds file sharing to
IPX/SPX or NetBEUI but I'm not quite ready to go that route. What other
tweaks can I attempt on my XP Pro (SP2) machine?

Turns out it will work, but you have to set the value much higher.
