Q: DVD & Color?

J

Does the color and/or shade (i.e., darkness) of DVD recordable media, have
anything to do with compatibility or longevity?

Thank you, for any helpful advice.

Yes, but only insofar as different dyes usde for the recording layer
have different colors and at the same time different compatibility
and data lifetimes.

But that does not help you, as it is not a proportional relationship
as in "darker = better" or "less red = better".
Thank you, for any helpful advice.

Stay away from recorable DVD if you care about your data.
It is low-quality consumer trash. The occasional combination
of burner and medium may be good, but there really is no
simple eay to find out for how long it will stay good.

Only in the sense that the dye composition does affect compat and longevity.

Bugger, I was going to advise you to shove your head up a dead bear's arse.

Okay...thanks, once again.

I was merely inquiring, on my brother's behalf; he only uses DVD-R, to record
things off cable TV (utilizing stand-alone machines, not PC drives).

Personally, I rarely do much DVD "burning" -- as the media is far too small in
capacity, for any of my computers' current back-up needs.
