Punctuation

Hi Team;

This forum is probably not the appropriate place to ask this question, but I
have tried to find the answer elsewhere without much success, and because
I've had great assistance from you guys in the past, I thought I'd put you to
task to see if someone might be able to help.
I'm beginning to see the punctuation symbol :-) more often now, mainly
used in emails and text messages. I have to be honest in saying I've only
seen it a few times and was wondering if it is a proper punctuation mark, or
perhaps just a trend thing; it appears to be used as an introductory symbol.
I seem to recall reading somewhere not to use the bracket after the colon?

Kind regards

Graham

Geez guys, don't tell anyone. Seems I'll have to get with the times eh!
having shown my age now.
