Publishing to a subdomain

I have a domain that I have created several subdomains
for my kids to build their own websites in. They are
using Frontpage 2002, and I want them to be able to
publish directly to their space using their own username
and password. I created their own ftp logins to the
site. Frontpage appears to only accept and use the main
user login. Is there a way to get Frontpage to accept
their separate logins, or am I stuck with them using my
login to publish their pages?

Hi Mutt,
this would probably depend how your host is set up. Most I've used map the
subdomain to a folder on your main site, so if your site was www.you.com and
you had subdomain1.you.com subdomain2.you.com your folder structure would
look like
siteroot
subdomain1
subdomain2
You could convert subdomain1 and subdomain2 to subwebs (assuming your host
supports) then they'd have their pwn username/password.

Okay,
I follow what your getting at. The part that throws me
is the converting a subdomain to a subweb. I've never
encountered that. I've scoured the cpanel for my site
and cannot locate anything that comes close. If you
could point me in the right direction, I'd be very
happy. Thanks

and then you would publish to
http://www.you.com/subdomain1
and
http://www.you.com/subdomain2

Jon
site was www.you.com

The subweb is not converted to a subdomain. The DNS is set to point the
subdomain to the subweb. In most cases the host has to do this.

If the site has the FP extensions, you would always publish to the subweb,
not the subdomain name.

So, here is what I have.
www.mydomain.com/sundomain1 which is accessed by
subdomain1.mydomain.com. When I go to publish it, I have
http://www.mydomain.com/subdomain1 and it works fine with
the master username and password. But I want to be able
to publish to the subdomain with a different username and
password. Mainly, I don't want my kids messing around
with the main website. So, I have tried both
www.mydomain.com/subdomain1 and subdomain1.mydomain.com
with their ftp logins and that doesn't work. What I need
to know is, without having Sharepoint setup on the
server, how can I use Frontpage to allow my kids to
publish their websites without them having access to the
main website?

Clear as mud? Hehe, btw, Thanks for the help

You need to contact your host set unique FP publishing permissions for each
subwebs.

did you try adding your password as admin on both the root and the sub, then giving the kids a admin password on *only* the sub?
