When I publish my website using http, I get the following message:
---------------------------
Microsoft FrontPage
---------------------------
Server error: Error 2 opening registry key "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\Web Server Extensions\Ports\Port 80".
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Can anyone tell me how to correct this problem? It used to work. I added
free firewall software since the last time I used it. That might be part of
the problem but removing the firewall does not allow me to publish still.

Thanks,
David Perry

You need to contact your host if this is happen when publishing to a remote server.

Before you uninstalled the Firewall did you restore all of the default
settings for the machine?
If not, reinstall it, restore the computer default settings.

No. If I did not save the default maching settings, how would I find out
what they are to restore them.

David Perry

The Firewall application should have the option.

Also, try reinstalling the Firewall, opening it's control panel and giving
internet access to FrontPage.

Steve,
Thanks for your input. I checked the firewall and gave access to FrontPage.
When it asked for me to allow access, it indicates server access for
192.168.0.100 Port 3784. However, when I try to publish the website the
error message is for Port 80. I believe that something has been deleted from
my Registry and that it is not being recreated when I reinstall the
software. Does any of this sound like a recognized problem?

David Perry

Are you by any chance using a DSL or cable: network address translation router
( NAT ) router??
192.168.0.100 is a NAT router address. ( it's also the internal IP address
used by AOL DSL ) and port 3784 is the router port being accessed by your
machine.

Also, If your using Windows 2K or XP go to control panel, computer management
click services and see if your firewall program left an uninstalled service
running.

If no luck, go to http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/utilities.shtml and
download and install Process Explorer and TDI monitor, run them and they will
show you which process / program is claiming what ports in your system.

They are free for personal use.

Process Explorer for programs, TDI monitor for local and remote IP addresses and
ports.
