Publisher2003 To FrontPage2003 Has Bizarre Results

I saved/converted a Publisher newsletter to html and then tried to import the
resulting "index" file and created "directory" with the rest of the html in
it, into FrontPage2003. The results were, the index file imported and the
directory imported, at first, but none of the files would show up in the
FrontPage application window. The directory shows "empty". However in Windows
Explorer you can see the actual files in this FP directory. When you try to
import one of the same files into this "empty" directory, FP says there's
already a file there with that name even though FP shows this directory to be
empty. I ended up getting it to work by just uploading the "index.htm" file
and the "empty" directory and then FTP'ing the files outside of FP into the
empty directory on the webserver..... how bizarre....I won't attempt this
again... I see from other posts that it appears Publisher and FP do not work
well together... anyone else have these kinds of problems ?

If you had asked us over in the Publisher group, we could have told you that
going from Publisher to Front Page isn't a simple process.

Besides all that >>>Publisher should not be used for web pages. It is not
the correct 'tool' for the job.

....you will also have a fair amount of cleaning up to do.

Personally, I don't recommend converting. Do it straight in FP or straight in Pub...FP being the preferred tool...but Pub will do some fairly ok, but simple , pages.

Did you try to Import the entire folder from Pub?

Also, if your web is FP extension enabled you may have broken the extensions by FTPing.

Exactly...that's why Publisher is for publishing print publications not
online....don't be fooled by the fact it allows saving of documents as html.
The results are unpredictable as you've found out.

While I agree converting or using a Publisher generated site/page in FP is a PITA, if you must use it:
- what you are seeing (or not seeing) is because of the way publisher by default creates your pages in a hidden thicket folder (and
FP does not show thicket files)
- In publisher check your options when saving the web
(there is one that does not create the files in a subfolder so you won't have the hidden thicket folder)

PS
then be prepared to spend a lot of time correcting the Publisher html code (-;

....and if you have overlapping objects and don't pay attention to warnings (who does) it will turn them into one big image.
