Published printers in AD?!?! Please help!!

When printers get published in AD some of the names get
displayed wrong. For example, a printer queue (canon5)
that resides on a server (BL-PR1) SHOULD be displayed
as "BL-PR1-CANON5" but instead names like "BL003256172"
appear. Although some printer names are appearing
correctly whitout any obvious reason.

The thing is that the print queue has the same name as the
share and it is not the name of the queue that is
displayed in AD..
For example, the print queue "Iglo" resides on the
server "BL-PR1", but is displayed in AD as "BL-
0033678923" ..
The only place where the same strange name appear is under
properties for the printer object in AD, on the
tab "Object" and in the field "canonical name of object".
But still I don´t understand where this name comes from,
it appears to be random?!

More useful information could be that when i search AD for
my published printers I am able to find the name "Iglo"
(the actual name of the queue) just like want to, even
though the name "iglo" doesn´t appear in Active Directory
Users and Computers.

What am I overlooking?!

Thanks alot for you time.. / Daniel

you might want to validate the internal print servers
name in dns (or DHCP if you're using reservations). (I'm
assuming of course these are LAN attached printers). If
you see the 'same name' as is being published, I'd rename
the print server.

Hardy
