Public folder email address

For major projects we create a new public folder, and everyone
forwards/copies related emails to the folder during the life of the project.
I used to do this by creating a new public folder with a short memorable name
(e.g. if the customer's name is "Memory Lane", the folder might be called
"Memory"). Then I opened the properties dialog for the folder, selected the
Admin tab and clicked the button to add the folder to my contacts. This used
to magically add a contact with an email address like "(e-mail address removed)",
which I would then publicise as necessary.

Well, my old PC died, and I got a new one. Now when I do that, I get a
contact with an email address like this:

"MEMORY67147D7F4503B266A4D4A8BDBA83C698034462"

Well this doesn't look like an email address, and uunfortunately, it doesn't
work like an email address either. Messages sent to it just clutter up the
administrators lost property box. My Outlook version is 2003 SP1.

I would love to get back to the old easy way of doing this, but failing
that, could anyone please just tell me how to set the email address for a
public folder?

Many thanks in advance,

Vaughan

What I don't understand is why Exchange seemed to be happy to allocate an
email address to new public folders before, but it doesn't any more?

You may want to post this to an Exchange newsgroup for a better answer than
I can give. I have not seen this problem - perhaps an Exchange MVP has.
