PST Files

I had a crash yesterday and have lost my entire outlook.pst file. It was as
if it archived w/o me archiving it. I've found the file and have read all
previous threads on how to restore it. Since I have Outlook 2000 I do no have
File-Open-Outlook Data File. I have Open-PST file OR selected item. I have
tried to import it and bring it in through File-Open and receive the same
message others have (properties for this information service must be defined
prior to use). Please help me as I have work data on there I need to restore.

Don't import a PST since this can corrupt it. Using Outlook 2000, use File >
Open Personal Folders File (pst) then browse to your PST.
Are you connecting to an Exchange server for email? If you are, then use the
Mail Applet in the Control Panel to add a PST to your profile. Then try to
open the PST file using the method described above.
If you had a crash yesterday, I would suggest that you scan your PST for
errors before proceeding with anything else. Make sure Outlook is closed
first. Also, using Windows Explorer, unhide all hidden folders and files as
well as show known file extensions. Then do a file/folder search for
scanpst.exe. When you find it, double-click it and follow the instructions.
It will ask you to browse to your PST file. Scan the file repeatedly until it
comes up with no errors.
Let me know how you make out.

Well, as it turns out that outlook.pst file couldn't be scanned because it
was 0 bytes. I have no idea where the original file went. It's not in the
normal file desination. Thank you for your help. Without the file to bring it
in, there's a bigger problem that originally thought.

Do a file/folder search for *.pst to see all PST files located on your
harddrive. You should have an archive.pst which is your archived (older
items). Usually the default name of the pst file is outlook.pst but it could
be renamed to something else.

Use File>Open>Personal Folders File. Same thing.

Click Help>About. Is Outlook in Corporate/Workgroup mode or Internet Mail
Only mode?
