.PST file not a personal folders file

My computer crashed. The hard drive was faulty. I should have been backing
up my stuff, but wasn't. With some assistance, the .PST file was recovered,
transfered to a network, then to my new hard drive. I have tried to install
the new .PST by importing and by opening. Both methods caused the error
message that it is not a Personal Folder File. I attempted to run
scanpst.exe, but it says there is not enough data. The file is only 8 kb.
Is it hopeless?

Thanks,

Andrea

You should not use Import. It corrupts the file. Use File, Open Outlook Data
file instead and see if you can open and move the old items into the new
file. However, 8kb sounds like it was not really recovered.

Thanks for your help. I did attempt to open the file, but recieved the same
error message.

An 8 kb .pst file is almost completely useless. A brand new .pst file
(virgin, unopened) is 32 kb. Yours has probably been hosed.
