pst file not a personal folder file?

There are plenty of topics on this already, but no concrete answers.
Microsoft doesn't know anything, and this is driving me insane.

I have a 1G pst file burned to DVD. I have copied it to my HD, made
sure it is not read only, and tried to open it with Outlook using
File\Open\Outlook Data File, but I get the message that it is not a
personal folder file. Funny thing is, Outlook will browse to it, and
obviously sees the .pst extension, but it's still not a valid pst file.

I've tried scanpst.exe, but even that tells me it's not a valid pst
file.

Any help would be appreciated.

Which version of Microsoft Outlook ? Have you tried to access
the PST with the Store folder tools to compress the contents. I
seem to remember that 1.0 Gigabyte+ older .PST's can and
do suffer forms of corruption. Also could the PST be encrypted ?
Outlook should be backwards compatible with older Pst modules
but you might try opening/accessing with the Pst's creation version.

Your best bet is to try to "import" the file in Outlook to see if this
helps. File, Import/Export and follow the on-screen instructions.

You might want to post to an Outlook newsgroup.

Niether Import or Export is reccommended with a pst as it often leads to
corruption or data loss.
You either copy the pst, with OL closed, or in OL open the pst.

Was the file created with the same, or older, version of Outlook as
you're using now? Have you tried to import it?

Outlook 2003, I don't knwo how to use the store folder tools.

I can't import it through file/import because Outlook doesn't recognize
it as a pst file.

It's not encrypted at all.
