PST file merge question

OK, no import or export. got that. In Outlook 2003 running on two
machines, I want to synchronize the two PST files and retire one
version/machine. I should never have let my wife use two machines for
one e-mail account, but the deed is done.

Can two PST files be merged or should I just rename it, copy it, and
open it as needed and not try to synchronize and merge the two
versions??

Thanks for the info.

Transfer the PST you wish to retire to the system that will remain active.
Make sure Outlook is closed when you do it. In the destination Outlook,
click File>Open>Outlook Data File and open the transferred PST. It must be
writable when you do this. YOu can either use it like that or you can copy
the contents of its folders to your existing folders. Non-default folders
can be copied directly. Default folders need to be opened and their
contents copied to the corresponding folder in the destination PST.

Thanks. It worked as you said. I decided to try that before I saw your
post just to experiment, since I don't use Outlook regularly. Turns
out the harder problem was doing the "merge" with her incidences of
Eudora where discrete mailboxes had to be renamed to as not to
over-write the existing ones. Live and learn. In this aspect, Outlook
is easy to "merge" or consolidate e-mails from different instances.

Thanks for your input.
