psc 2355 stops printing after half a page

Hope someone can help (I am based in UK)

I have an HP PSC 2355 all-in-one that worked just dandy on my old Win98SE
PC. I recently bought a brand spanking XP PC, installed various bits of
software, including the PSC 2355 stuff, and off I went. Now I find that the
printer will sometimes stop printing part way through a page and cause the
PC to 'hang' at the same time. The only solution is to restart the PC and
print from scratch.

It can go a couple of days without any problem, then suddenly, dare I say
randomly, the problem will rear up yet again.

It doesn't seem to matter which program I print from.

I thought it might be some sort of communication problem between the PC and
printer and changed the USB cable - no difference. I downloaded the latest
drivers from HP - no difference. I looked for any critical patches on HP's
web site, downloaded and - no difference. Tried different USB ports - no
difference. Uninstalled the HP software and reinstalled - no difference
............. (there's a pattern emerging here)

The only other USB device I have running is a Zoom ADSL modem which I
disconnected and - no difference.

I haven't yet reinstalled WinXP, etc ..... rather hoping it wouldn't come to
that.

Has anyone heard of a similar problem and, if so, of any solution?????

TIA

As Dave suggests, this may well be a memory problem. You can download free
diagnostic programs from several sources. Try to find one of those and run the
quick memry test, if that does not show a problem you will probably have to run
an in-depth test over several hours. If the test shows a problem call the PC
supplier.
Some of these diagnostics also test other parts of the hardware like the
internal USB hub, well worth looking for one that has those tests. I doubt it
is a printer problem.

If you have a Dell Latitude or Inspiron computer see

and

Also, if you have not already applied the firmware update from

you should do that as well.
