Protecting shared directories by password in Windows XP

How do I protect shared directories by password in
Windows XP ? It is easy in Windows 2000.

No you can't just as in Windows 2000. Windows 2000 and XP don't allow
you to protect shared folder by password. You could do that in Windows
9x and Me, tough.

You can either use some 3rd party app or protect directories using
username/password combination.
