PROTECTING IMAGES ON WEBSITE

I have found several sites on which one cannot dowload, save, or copy the
images that are displayed. I wish to do this with images on my website as
well but am not sure how to do that. I have been told that some people are
"stealing" the images from my site and I want to prevent that. How?

Correction: You have found several sites which gave *you* the impression
that *you* couldn't download, save, or copy the images that are displayed.
This was due to your lack of knowledge and understanding. In fact, if you
saw images on these web sites, your computer had already downloaded and
saved them. And the methods for downloading, copying and saving such images
are too numerous to enumerate (again and again, since this question comes up
so often). If you want to know what they are, Google is your friend.

You can't. All you can do is reduce the ease of it. In all
actuality, the images, text, etc are all saved to the client
machine, and then the browser puts it all together. The most
common thing that is down is javascripts which are easily
defeated by disabling the use of javascript.

Professional developers will look at it as being amateurish.

Casual browsers find it irritating, because the no right
click disables more than saving the picture

The best thing you can do is to reduce the desire for the
picture, either through a visual watermark or posting low
quality stuff.

Best way I've seen yet is to have the images engraved on heavy carved stone
tablets. People can still take photos of them, but they'll lack the subtle
nuances of the original... the texture, the way the lighting changes the
appearance throughout the day, all those things will be gone. A really
talented person might be able to try and recreate the piece from scratch,
but few will bother to do so.

To tie this into your website, instead of using a URL reference, you need to
use GPS-compatible code to point to its location.
