Protecting Cell Contents from Editing

A

Anita Taylor

Is there any way to protect the contents of cells? We have
a user who wants to "lock down" the contents of several
cells in her workbook and prevent their contents from
being edited in any way. We've tried all forms of
protection available from the Save and Tools dialog boxes.
None of them prevent us from editing the contents of
cells, and that is her ultimate goal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi
try
- format all cells you DON'T want to lock (goto 'Format - Cells -
Protection' and uncheck 'Protected/Locked')
- goto 'Tools - Protection' and protect your worksheet

Many thanks! This worked just fine. It doesn't seem to
make much sense, but it works perfectly!

To clarify on protection.

Note: there are 3 types of Protection

1. WorkSheet protection from Tools>Protection
2. WorkBook protection from Tools>Protection
3. File protection from File>Save As>Tools>General Options(XL2002)

And a fourth one if you count Protection on a VBA Project
