Ok I tried to do my home work I searched the posts but wasn't able to find
the answer. I have several docs that were password protected by the
originator then e-mailed to me. When attempting to open them the password
dosen't work. I have contacted the author and while on the phone we were
unable to make the password open the files. The files were e-mailed useing
"outlook". This happened before several months ago and as the author I just
removed the password; however today the docs are sensitive and need to
protected.

Thank you,
Lt.F.

Passwords are case-sensitive. Are you sure you are using the correct
combination of upper and lower case? Also, if the document is being damaged
in transit, it will be less susceptible to damage if zipped before sending.

Good thoughts however we addressed each of those, I actually had the author
present and tried multipule combinations, we resent the files all to no avail
thus my cry for help:-) We can try a zipped file but my first hunch is that
is not the problem. as Iam writing this a though occured If I dont not have
the protection addin on my machine does that have an effect on this?

What "protection addin"?

I was thinking of the IRM service. My bad!! Anyway it seems as if the virus
programs may be the culprit as I sent a file with the same password back to
the Chief and he was not able to openit either. Any ideas?
