Protect Only Certain Cells

How do I protect only certain cells rather than the entire worksheet? I have
a range of cells with formulas that I do not want the users to be able to
accidentally delete or change. I can protect the entire sheet, but cannot
figure out how to protect ranges of cells.

Select the whole sheet by clicking the box on the top left, (to the left of
A and above 1). Right click anywhere in the sheet, click 'Format Cells',
Protection tab and uncheck 'Locked', OK
Now select the cells you want to protect, (hold down Ctrl and select them
one by one), right click in one of them and go to Format Cells, Protection
again, check 'Locked', OK. This means that only the cells you selected will
be protected, not all of them which is the default.
Now protect the sheet,
Regards,
Alan.

Highlight the range(s) of cells that are for input data (ie. unprotected) -
then select Format...Cells....Protection and uncheck the "Locked" box
("Locked" cells being default setting). You can then protect the sheet and
remaining cells will be locked.

I find it useful to highlight only input areas by using colour formatting.
