Again, this is the wrong venue, but you folks are good.

How do I go about promoting a pointer to base class into into a pointer to a
derived class in C++?

The more appropriate newsgroups for your question would be:
microsoft.public.de.vc
 
Well, being that it was written in English, I don't think I'd sent him
to a German newsgroup.
How'bout microsoft.public.vc.language.
