I run a small home network using a workgroup. I would like to learn about
and change from a workgroup to a domain. Is this possible without having a
pc on my home network become a domain name server. I fear that having a
local pc be a dns would interferr with my ISP's dns. How is this best
accomplished with one pc running XP pro and the other pc on my home network
being Win2k Server.... thanks (e-mail address removed)

Domains are generally used for large networks. To create a domain, you need to setup a Primary Domain Controller. You will also need to setup DNS (Domain Name System) somewhere in your network, as well. I would recommend keeping your network as a workgroup though. It is pretty pointless going through all of this trouble just for one or two clients on the network. However, if you are interested in learning more about Windows 2000 Server, try picking up this book: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=pi62RuvbxP&isbn=0764503413&itm=

Also, check out: http://technet.msft.demoservers.com/skins/tn/login.aspx
You can play with Windows 2003 Server for free without destroying your network!
