Projector recommendations?

I'd like to develop a photographic slide show, and -- now that we're in a
digital age -- it's time to think about replacing the old Carousel.

My emotional price point is somewhere around $800, and I gather some pretty
good projectors are in that range.

Does anyone have any experience with projector hardware? What kind of
resolution do I need to get an adequate photographic experience? Any
suggestions on specs -- or on specific brands and models?

large and bright the rooms are where you plan to use this and how
