Project is Unviewable

When I searched for this question, I found that had come up several times, and I tried many of the things suggested, but I'm still stumped. I have a Word document that originated with one of my templates. When I try to add code for Document_Open, I get a dialog box indicating “Project Locked - Project is unviewableâ€. I have noticed that when this document is open, the template from which it was created is also listed in Project Explorer, and I can view that project. Is that normal? I have not run into this problem before. I have checked, and there is not a permission problem. I tried to set the Extensibility reference, but was blocked from even seeing the reference list. I would appreciate any ideas. Using Windows XP Pro and Word 2002.

Thanks.

It's possible that the document structure has been damaged. If you create a new document from this template can you view that project?

Hi Cindy
Yes, when I open a new document from that same template, I can open the project for the new document. There are probably dozens of ways to damage the structure of a document, but what are some of the most likely things I might have done
I am fairly new to newgroups. I'm guessing, from the greeting in your reply, Hi =?Utf-8?B?VG9tIE1jTmFtYXJh?=,
that I did something wrong, or broke some rule of netiquette with my post. If so, please tell me what

Not your fault, really. Since the SWEN wurm hit the newsgroups a couple of months
ago, the web interface will try to disguise your name by default. You also didn't
sign your message (not that this would make much difference in my case, since my
news-reader automatically picks up the name from the message's "From" line). It
also has started using UTF-8 encoding, which my newsreader doesn't interpret
"legibly" <sigh> The only thing that would make a difference would be if you used
a newsreader (such as Outlook Express's newsgroup functionality) to communicate
with the newsgroups instead of Microsoft's web interface.

When a file "goes bad", it's usually not something a user has done, unless he's
put lots of section breaks in a document (or used the Master Doc feature), then
tried moving them around. Or played around a lot with the numbering functionality.

More commonly, a "hiccup" during Save, electronic transmission (email) or network
transmission mixes up something in the "last paragraph mark" so that Word can't
interpret it correctly anymore.

Cindy,
Thanks for the info. I have started using Outlook Express to post/reply to
newsgroups. Regarding the "project locked" file, if it was damaged in the
way that you mentioned, is there any way to fix it, or do I need to start
over with a fresh file to have it viewable in VBA?

Hi Tom,
I have started using Outlook Express to post/reply to
newsgroups.
Hope you're enjoying the experience :) BTW, you may start getting deluged
with SPAM/virus emails if that's your real email address I see in the
message header. Be careful!

You most likely need to start with a fresh file. You can copy any text in
the main document into the new file - but do NOT include the last paragraph
mark in the selection.

Any code is probably lost, but you can at least TRY using Tools/Templates
and Addins/Organize. If you're VERY lucky, this can pull out the
information.

The way to backup code, so that if something like this happens again, would
be to use the File/Export command in the Visual Basic Editor window. That
generates the code as pure text files, and they can be brought into any
document via File/Import.

I have set up a throw-away email address for this purpose. However, what is
a good, alternate method, if I want to include an email address? I'm using
Outlook Express 6 with Win XP Pro. I realize this is not an OE forum, but I
have tried to find a newsgroup related to using OE with discussion groups,
and have not found one. Do you happen to know of one, or a web site that
deals with this?

Your suggestion worked great. Thank you! I copied all but the last
paragraph mark to a new document and it was fully accessible in VBA.
It had been locked for viewing since I first created it from my template, so
I did not lose any code, luckily.

My appologies to everyone, especially Cindy.

I was trying to reply to Cindy's reply, and I kept getting a warning that my
post had been rejected by the server. I tried different things to see if I
could get my reply to go through. Then, I discovered they had *all* gone
through. As you have guessed, I am new at using Outlook Express to
communicate with newsgroups. Have been using web-based access.

Again, sorry about the duplication.

Hi Tom,
My appologies to everyone,
Happens to all of us, one time or another <g> With me, it's
when my newsreader is unable to post for some reason or
other and aborts. It doesn't recognize which posts actually
got sent, and does them all again. No worries!

I don't use OE, so... But I'd try asking in an OE group. If someone there
doesn't know, they may have some suggestions about where you can ask.

Generally, though, from the discussions I've seen, this is as good an approach
as any if your ISP doesn't provide any anti-virus / SPAM services.

Microsoft's suggestion is that you spoof your email address in a way that
will be clear to users but not to spambots. For example, you could start
with:

tmcnng at kc dot rr dot com

But spambots have become a lot more sophisticated, and that may not suffice
(and some posting hosts may require a "properly formed" address).

So the next suggestion is to include some extra text in the your email
address, such as:

(e-mail address removed)

If you look at other posts, you'll see a variety of DeleteThis and other
variants. Spambots may have picked up on the most common of these as well,
so be creative. The important thing is to add the extra text *after* the @,
not before. You want any messages sent to you to bounce before they get to
your ISP, not overburden your ISP with undeliverable messages.
