For starters, scan your PC with an external virus scanner,
e.g. on www.antivirus.com ("free online scan").

Ok, I tried that. Sorted 8 viruses out, but the problem
still persists.

What next??

If I had a machine with eight viruses then I would consider it
compromised beyond repair, since virus scanners are limited
in their capability. They can kill viruses but they cannot always
repair the damage. I would now do this, in this order:

1. Back up all important files.
2. Download a good virus scanner. I recommend Trend Internet Security.
3. Disconnect the machine from the Internet.
4. Re-install Windows 2000. Allow the hard disk to be formatted when
prompted.
5. Install the virus scanner.
6. Connect the machine to the Internet.
7. Re-install all applications.
8. Restore your data.
9. Never allow your PC to run without an up-to-date virus scanner.

Basically good advice except for (6). Why would you connect to
the internet to install applications? Also why don't you recommend
the use of a firewall?

I just downloaded a 2.6Mb update to AVG7 (www.grisoft.com) and
at 56K dialup it took about 12 minutes. During the download my
firewall rejected 3 incoming ownerless TCP packets to ports 1027
and 1034. As a result my firewall protects and my once a day virus
scan is just a formality.

Alan

Answers: No strong opinion about when exactly the connection to
the Internet is done, as long as a virus scanner & firewall is installed.

About the firewall: Trend Internet Security has an integrated firewall.
If the OP selects a different virus scanner then he should certainly
follow your advice.

May be your hh.exe is corrupted. Extract the original hh.exe from CD and
replace it to the destination.

If you put all ng addresses in the 'To' line, separated by a colon, then any
response will be visible to all, and you wont have to jump from ng to ng to
see the response, also if you Q is answered it will be visible to all
As for breathing, its up to you

Well to get rid of viruses (virii), print a fixsheet from Symantec of reach
and print it, start at the top and do exactly line by line or you be in deep
caca again.
