My computer has 204MB of Ram and a 40Meg HD that is less that 1/4 full. I am
running XP Pro. The system has been running well until a couple of weeks
ago. Now programs load very slowly. I get the initial screen for the
program but the hourglass stays on for about 30 seconds after that. I
regularly defrag. the HD and I have Norton Anti-Virus checking for viruses.
I set my paging file size to 754/800MB to see if that would make any
difference but I don't see any. Suggestions please.

You can try:

Uninstall unnecessary apps
Run spybot and ad-aware
Run a full virus scan with current virus definitions
Defrag the partition(s)
Go into msconfig and remove unnecessary apps from startup

If as you say, you NEED A LARGER GARD DRIVE! How did you manage to get
Windows installed on 1/4 "40Meg" hard drive!!!!!!????

I have done all that but it still takes about 30 seconds for each program to
finish loading. I can close on open program and open it again but it still
takes the same time.
