Programs shut down

I get IE-6.0 and Outlook Express shutting down now (has been happening for a
week). I had been away from the computer and it was turned off for 5 days
before that. Now it closes these two (and some other) programs after a few
seconds, when I try them, and then asks for them to be sent or not to
Microsoft.
I did a re-install of XP (let the programs guide me through) and worked fine
until I had to reload the Updates. Now it's back to shutting down after
anywhere between 5 sec. and a min.

Dear Group,
I wasn't very clear when I wrote the first post, so will try to do a
better job now.
My computer programs shut down after only a few seconds (up to a minute)
after logging on to them. This happens especially with IE and Outlook
Express, but will also happen with my Norton Anti-Virus program and any
other ones that go online. It has not occurred on any of the Office group
(Word, Excel, PPT, etc.) to date.
I get an error message that says the program will shut down and requests
whether I want an error message sent to Microsoft. Early on I did get
Symantec Integrator error message "an unhandled exception has occurred. The
error was: unknown (0xC0000005)"
I have reinstalled (not full) my XP Home and the unit may work fine or may
give error messages, "winlogon.exe--entry point not found. The procedure
entry point "Rt/IsThreadWithinLoaderCallout" could not be located in dynamic
link library ntdll.dll" Also have received error "lsass--entry point not
found "and "services.exe--entry point not found." messages. The last time,
things seemed to work ok, except for not finding System Restore. After
reloading the Microsoft Updates, the System Resrore works, but now I'm back
to the error messages, and the current program shutting down. Any
suggestions?

Unfortunately, mass-installing Windows Updates can cause a variety of
problems. Uninstalling the Updates and adding them back individually,
rebooting and testing after each installation, may be the way to go.

I'll give that a try. Thanks.

This seems to be working, taking off all the updates, then adding back,
restoring certain points, etc. When I finally got to the update # 814995 on
Compatibility. There were 4 other updates that when I downloaded, I got the
error message. I'm almost done, but have gotten all the critical downloads
except 2 to work, and I'm working on those. Thanks for the help cimex.
