Programs don't run afterSP2 install

After successfully installing SP2 from CD, some existing applications do not
start. Error messages stating that "xxx.exe cannot be found" or" file could
not be opened'. In some cases, after successive clicking OK through the
error messages, the app will open. Others apps simply close after the
message is acknowledged. Uninstalling the application and running a clean
install does not fix the problem.

Most distressing is the fact that any newly installed s/w won't start
because "xxx.exe file contains an invalid path". Has anyone else experienced
this problem? Is restoring to SP1 worthwhile? Any help is greatly
appreciated.

SP2 is not the cause of your problem. Something else is the cause and it is
usually some type of Spyware program.

Please list out the exact application name.

Thanks for the response, Yves. I just discoverd that I can open the problem
programs, (Cakewalk Pro 9, Excel 10 and a Study Works math tutor program) by
opening with "Run As" and removing the protection option. I can't explain it.
I have never had to do that to launch any programs in the 3 years I've been
using XP.
It's an extra step, but appears to work.
