I doubt that this is a MS Access database question, but here goes anyway.
Somehow when you removed the program, you also removed or corrupted some of
the font. If Arial is missing, Windows might substititude Arial Italics for
example.
Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double click on Fonts. See if any
are any common fonts missing like Arial, Courier New, Times New Roman, MS
Serif, and MS Sans Serif.
If they are all there look for any fonts with Itialics in the name but now
base font. For example you see Garamond Italic but not Garamond, that could
be a sign of a problem.
It's also possible that someone messed with the Appearance settings of the
desktop Display Properties.
