Program will not delete

Does anyone know of a way to delete a program that just will not go away?
The program is McAfee. I have tried from Add/Remove Programs, from Explore,
and others as well. The message I get is "Cannot be deleted. It is either
being used by another program or you don't have permission"

I will appreciate any info. you have. Thanks!

The only way I was able to delete McAfee was to delete as much as I
could in the registry in safe mode. then manually deleting files in
explorer then back to regedit and so forth. Took most of the weekend.
Nothing I found through mcafeehelp or google worked. It is a pain.
