Program sharing. Please help.

With msn open I try to program share with a friend. The message says I need
to get the latest version of Windows messenger. grrrr hate that thing.
Anyways, I click on the link provided. It takes me to the page to download
Windows messenger, 4.7 . Fine I Download that and program sharing still
doesn't work. Says connecting but never does. Then I found out there is a
Windows messenger 5.1. Ok so I download that...go to install it and a window
ask's me if I want to repair it. It's my only option so I say, " Repair "
Then I get a message saying there was an error using my temp file and the
program cannot be installed. S. O . L. again.

Is there not anything else to allow friends to share programs? I want to
share Microsoft Encarta with my neice. Please help.
