Hello,

I am having a problem with the shortcuts for my hard
drives on my desktop. When I double-click them I get a
dialog box up with the title: "Program Not Found"

Inside this dialog box it goes on to say, Windows cannot
find uninsatll.exe.

This program is needed for opening files of type 'File'.

Type in the executable file to be used instead:
then it gives me a text box with C:\ and below this the
standard OK, Cancel and Browse... buttons.

Can anyone tell me why this has happened and what I can
do to solve the problem?

Perhaps a virus has deleted some files or maybe some person
did?

Did you run a registry cleaner tool?

I did have W32.Dedler.Worm, but have since got rid of
it. I do not have a registry cleanup tool
unfortunately. Do you know of any free ones?

There is not a lot of information about the worm I had
and what it does so I unfortunately cannot see how to fix
my probs. I was hoping that one of the Microsoft people
would tell me where to look and what registry keys to fix.

Registry cleaners often remove stuff you need. You can find
several effective free tools using a search on Google.

If you select the shortcuts with a right click, a windows
pops up, select properties and then "find target" and you
can browse to find the program which will repair the short
cut.

Hi,

You need to repair the .lnk file assoctiation. You can download a quick fix
from www.dougknox.com, look under WinXP Fixes for file association fixes.
Grab Doug's script and run it. You may also need the .exe file association
fix found on the same page.
