program into system icon tray?

A program that has to run doesn't have it in it's code to minimize into the
system icon tray. However, it gets closed out frequently since it is on the
desktop and taskbar. Is there a program to make this program go into the
system icon tray or does anyone have instructions for writing a little
program to do it?
