Program Files - Read only

J

Jeremy

Has anyone run into a problem where the program files
directory is set at read only? I have tried changing it
to full control, but it changes back to read only. I am
trying to restore a backup in MS Money, and keep getting
an error - Money cannot locate 'file path' or cannot open
it, possibly because it is a read-only file. Yo ucan
change the read only attribute in the Windows Explorer.
If you have chosen the correct file and it cannot be
accessed, you will need to open your most recent backup
file.

Getting rather frustrated. I am logged in with admin
rights, and as far as I was aware, Program Files was not
a "read-only" directory.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jeremy,

Try to kill all Money related Processes using Task Manager.
You could also try doing it in Safe Mode:

Start/Restart your computer and start pushing F8 key twice per second. Select Safe Mode on Windows Advanced Options screen, and push Enter.

Hope this helps.

Safe mode didn't accomplish switching the folder over from
Read only. Is Program Files supposed to be a read-only
directory?

The read only attribute only applies to files--not folders.
If you look carefully you will see EVERY folder on the PC is marked as read
only.
