program crashes

Some certain software just doesn't work. It will start up ubt just disapears after about 5 seconds as if nothing ever happend. No error message, no "alert microsoft of this problem," not anything. the programs just start and disapear. Some software wont install off of cds either. I click install and again, everything just goes away. It's as if I never tried to load the cd or start a program. please help.
