Progamming Questions about Window XP 64-bit Edition

I am new to 64-bit programming. I have a few questions about XP 64-Edition:
1) How shall I detect XP Pro 64-bit Edition version vai window API ? As well
as x64 Edition?
2) Is there a way to allow 64-bit applications to load 32-bit DLLs? Is there
any programming guide?
