Profile problem

Hi All,

Windows 2000 Pro SP4 up to date
No virus or spy found.

When the client logs in, he receives this error message.

"Windows cannot load the profile and is logging you on
with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile
will be lost when you log off."

Anyone can help on this please ?

Thanks

1. the user's profile folder is somehow damaged - use System Properties,
Advanced, User Profiles to delete the existing profile for that user
or
2. the user is prevented from creating a profile becuase permissions are not
correct on the Documents and Settings folder. Make sure that SYSTEM has
Full Control
or
3. the permissions on the user's Documents and Settings folder have been
modified so they can't update it. Make sure that the user has Full Control
on their folder in Documents and Settings and all sub-folders and files
thereof

Thanks Bruce

The error begins with:

Windows cannot copy profile
\\servername\ and then(long path of the shared folder) to
location C:\Document and Settings ...

DETAIL - the filename or extension is too long.

It then says:

"Windows cannot load the profile and is logging you on
with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this
profile will be lost when you log off."

When the client tries to login onto 3 different computers
in different locations, there is absolutely no problem.

Hello,

I have noticed that you submitted a duplicate thread in
microsoft.public.win2000.active_directory newsgroup, may I suggest that we
discuss the issue in this newsgroup? Thank you for your understanding.

Based on my research, I suggest you use the following steps to isolate this
issue:

Step 1:
======================

Check the problematic domain account is not in the local and domain guest
group. For example, the domain account is called TEST, please check if
TEST is in the local Guest group or domain Guest group.

On the client, and add TEST to the local admin group. What is the result?

Step 2:
==================

As ptwilliams has suggested, check the roaming profile shares on the server
side to make sure the user has the permission to read and write the shares.
For example, if you want to store the user's roaming profile in a folder
that has the same name as the user account in a shared folder that is named
"Profiles" on a server that is named "Server1," type the following path:
\\Server1\Profiles\%username% For example, if you want to store the user's
roaming profile in a folder that has the same name as the user account in a
shared folder that is named "Profiles" on a server that is named "Server1,"
type the following path:
\\Server1\Profiles\%username% and make sure the user has read and write
permissions on \\Server1\Profiles\%username% folder.

Please refer to the following article to check the user profile shares.

Step 3:

the latest service pack:
