How many computers in my house can I run off of a version
of XP Professional? Do I need to go out and buy a second
version for my computer in the guest room?

One installation on one computer. Yes, you need a second license for a
second computer

According to the Windows End User License Agreement, one. According to
relevant (American) copyright law, uncertain, but "more than one" does
not seem to be forbidden.

It's up to you. I haven't seen kurttrail around lately, but his website
is at http://www.microscum.com/ and contains a different argument on the
issue of "one computer - one copy" then what you'll hear from most anyone
else on this NG.

Not so much a second copy, you need a second licence. Which will just about
cost you a second copy. For a 'cheaper' alternative you can buy an upgrade
if you have a qualifying product, or buy some cheap hardware component and
an OEM copy of XP with it (now there's another bunch of 'self?' proclaimed
laws, sorry I just read Ian's reply post I had to add to it abit).
