I have to reinstall microsoft Windows XP version 2002 and when I entered the
product key on the bottom of the computer I get a message that tells me it is
an invalid key number. I am an online student and need microsoft working ASAP!

So what are you saying then?

You expect someone to post you a serial number?

I think you're barking up the wrong tree pal...I'd look elsewhere.

The Product Key affixed to your computer will only work
with the Windows XP CD or Reinstallation CD that originally
came with your computer. It appears you are attempting
to use a different CD.

He is saying

1. He has to reinstall Windows
2. His number isn't working for some reason.

I think he expects someone to tell him what he is doing wrong.

Since you offered no help, only a knee jerk reaction, I'd say your tree is
the wrong one for anyone seeking help to bark up.

You didn't even, in your infinite wisdom, ask him if he was using the wrong
CD, or whether he was under the impression that his number would work with
any handy legal windows CD.

In summation, maybe you should let people qualified to do so answer his and
others questions in the future.

Love ya man, have a good one!

I only have the original disk it came with and have tried no other disks in
my computer. I was just wondering if the reinstallation required a different
code or something even though my computer should have been reinstalled as it
was when I bought it.

Hi look at your product key again in good lighting. Its very easy to enter
an "o" instead of "0" also "B" can be mistaken for "8".

Is this a brand name? If yes, have you tried manufacturer's restoration
disk? Check also that you are not hitting the wrong keys something cap
on/off could trigger. Check also that the pc seller did not package the
wrong kind of disk for you.

Hi,
Make sure you are using the right number. On my computer (Compact Presario),
I have several numbers on the computer. I tried to use the MS Office number
once for a reinstall of the OS. It took me two days (and a very big headache
with the appropriate amount of embarrassment) to realize that I was making
such a dumb mistake. If all else fails, try calling your manufacturer's
customer support number. Sometimes under unique circumstances, they can issue
you a new number or make sure the number you are trying to use is valid and
help you with the reinstall. This is where buying a name brand computer and
buying original MS retail CD's pays big dividends.

You need to examine the Product Key very carefully. It's awfully
easy to mistake a "B" for an "8," a "G" for a "6," an "S" for a "5," or
a "Q" for a "0" or "O." Fortunately, Microsoft had the good sense to
leave the "1's," "I's," "O's," and "0's" out of the equation. Also, be
sure that your <CapsLock> is _off_ while entering the Product Key --
this isn't supposed to make a difference, but I've seen it do so, on
rare occasions.
