Product key lost by customer

My firm has a probleme: We delivered a pc to a customer
incl. Windows XP Home Edition but the deal went sour
because of motherboard problems. So they brought the PC
and all the SW back to us, except the product key for
Windows XP Home Edition. the accidently threw it away (it
was located as a label on the plastic that was around the
user guide).

The question is now: What do we do to get another product
key? We have the original CD + Userguide. Can we get it
from Microsoft and is there a fee involved if so how much
in Denmark?

Windows XP Home Edition got activated by the user, by
phone.

Since we can't get into Windows not even safe mode, is
there anyway we can, from DOS, extract the product key
from the registry?

We can't get into windows because we changed the
motherboard to another brand. After tryin Motherboards
all 3 of the same brand and all defective, we switched
brand.

Hope to hear from someone soon!

Thanks!

With kind regards

As the customer had activated the licence, then whether you recover the key
or not is immaterial - it's activated and the licence is now tied to that
computer. Or are you meaning you now wish to resell the computer with that
licence?

If you're building and reselling computers, and you belong to the MS OEM
program, you should have contacts within MS to discuss this with. *But* part
of the OEM agreement says that you're supposed to affix that label to the
case.

I think you may need to mark this up as the cost of doing business. If this
was OEM version, the CD key was supposed to be affixed to the case. If it
was retail, you can contact Microsoft.
I don't have the contact info for Denmark.
