When trying to re-install xp home from my original
installation CD and entering the 25 digit product ID stuck
on the bottom of my laptop, I get a 'product ID invalid'
message.

I have recently installed SP1.

Does anyone know of the workaround?

Call This Number to Activate: Explain your problem,
Be nice ,but forceful. Don't take any crap. Ask for a
supervisor if you have a problem. Ask for their name.
Remember it's their Activation scheme, not your's, you
paid now it's up too them.

Call (800) 426-9400, and explain the situation.

Hello
if you are thrying to restore your laptop with the
restore disk you shouldn't need a 25 digit key that is
the code that is on the bottom, it goes with the original
software. If you are repairing or reinstalling from a XP
Cd you will need the 25 digit code that come with the CD
it will be on a licence that looks just like the one on
the bottom just a different code.
Hope this helps
Jim

Greetings --

You need to examine the Product Key very carefully. It's awfully
easy to mistake a "B" for an "8," a "G" for a "6," an "S" for a "5,"
or a "Q" for a "0" or "O." Fortunately, Microsoft had the good sense
to leave the "1's," "I's," "O's," and "0's" out of the equation.
Also, be sure that your CapsLock if _off_ while entering the Product
Key.

Greetings --

And just how, pray tell, does the OP activate an OS he cannot even
install? For that matter, why should he even have to try, since he's
using an OEM copy that is very probably BIOS-locked to the laptop,
therefore needing no activation? You might try reading the post
before cutting and pasting an irrelevant answer.

Check that very carefully in advanced, copying it to paper. It is very
easy to confuse; especially G and 6 B and 8 as well as S and 5
