processor running at less than half power. latitude d600 winxp

hello!
while i am a new operator, i have been trying to get to the bottom of this
problem since i obtained my machine. i am running a dell latitude d600 with
windows xp. i have a 1600mhz pentium m processor, but it will not run higher
than 599mhz, even plugged in. i read some things about smartstep, but i dont
fully understand why i can run my programs that require 800mhz or higher. if
there is a manual way to switch this, i would love to know!

Look in the user guide.

There is a section on clock speed and FSB speed.

Make sure you change the appropriate settings in BIOS to correct your problem.

If you can't find this in the user guide, call Dell support and they'll help
you out on the phone. It's a simple thing to correct.
