I went to System to rate my vista experience and I see that I cannot rate it
because it says...

Processor: Not Available
Memory (RAM): Not Available

However, in Windows Start Center (whatever its called when the system first
boots up) It shows everything correct!

Someone help?

1. Click Start, type the following path in the "Start Search" box,
and then press ENTER:

%SYSTEMROOT%\Performance\WinSat\DataStore

2. Delete all the .xml files in the folder.

3. Click Start, type performance information and tools in the Start Search box,
and then click Performance Information and Tools in the Programs list.

4. If the following information appears, click Refresh Now to update the
Windows Experience Index:

Your Windows Experience Index needs to be refreshed.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation,
type the password or click Continue.

Windows Experience Index assesses the components in the computer.

5. Note the value that appears next to Your computer has a
Windows Experience Index base score of.

6. Click Update my score.

Windows Experience Index - Performance Information and Tools page is completely blank:

OH MY GOODNESS YOU ARE A GOD!!!! YOU WERE ABLE TO RUN WINDOWS WITHOUT
RAM..... lol sorry couldn't hold my self.
my guess is that ...... actually kind of stuck on that one my self only
thing i could think of is that the system folder in control panel, doesn't
have access to the information. or like he said the files may be impairing
it from getting the info

My computer was rated a 5.3, but after doing all what you said, System does
not recognize my processor or ram still.

Is there anyway to fix this?

I'm having this same issue and have found several posts all over the net
about this. It started for me around the time I disabled UAC (user access
control).

I was also having an issue with the network icon in the systray having a red
X over it, but that was fixed by adding the Local System user to the
Administrators group. So odd.

From what I gather this is an issue with the WMI service not being able to
query for what components are in the system, but I can't find any fixes for
it anywhere. It cant even tell me what my processor is. When I installed
Vista Ultimate a few days ago all of this stuff worked fine.

Mine was caused by AIM.... I am pretty sure. It also caused issues with my
Wireless Network Icon in the tray for which I googled a fix for.

Has to do with some issue of 'Access Denial'
atleast thats what it was with the Network Icon Tray.

Grrr...AIM.

Everything you describe above sounds like problems other people have had
after installing AIM 6.5. I have had these same problems myself. Some people
report that uninstalling AIM 6.5 solved the problem. (Unfortunately, this did
not solve all of the problems I am having.) Some other people report that
using system restore to go back to before when AIM 6.5 was installed solved
the problem. Unfortunately, this did not work for me either.

One problem I am still having (after uninstalling AIM) is that I cannot log
on to my PC with a standard user account. The screen simply goes black and
never recovers. I can log on fine with an administrator account, though. Does
anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion about Trillian. I guess I should have been clearer
about what I am looking for. Actually, I don't care about my teenage son's IM
needs. I am much more concerned about restoring Vista to normal operating
mode. My biggest issue is that I cannot log on to the PC with standard user
accounts; the screen goes blank. I can, however, still log on with an
administrator account.
