Problems with Win XP Install... need help please

I just bought a new computer with an ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe board and the
ASUS EN7950GX2 1gig video card and a 320 gig SATA-2 Western digital hard
drive... when I try to install windows XP pro, it gets to the screen where
you hit Enter to start loading XP or press r to repair.... after I hit enter
it just goes "please wait" across the bottom and then freezes up. A friend
said I need a newer copy of Win XP with service pack 2 on it cause the
original XP was made before PCI-E cards and SATA drives were around. Is this
true? Any help would be appreciated
 
Ok thanks for all the help.. but I just found out my copy of windows XP has
SP2 on it.. any other reasons you can think of as to why it would freeze like
that?

1) perhaps the CD is bad?

2) you WILL need to press F6 when the prompt to do so appears at the
bottom, and it WILL take a while (30-60 secs) before it reacts to the F6,
but it should react and offer you the chance to choose additional drivers
from the floppy disk before proceeding. Your MOB docs should explain this,
and should have included the floppy or a tool to create that floppy.

Check ASUS's web site for that MOB model (its drivers+utilities section),
and if that doesn't help check their forum. You also should check for a
bios update, and BY ALL MEANS always do a memcheck86+ on the system before
installing the OS; it should run for several hours w/ ZERO errors.
Resolve any issues w/ ram before installing the OS.

Finally, leave any unneccessary components unplugged during the OS
install; just 1 HD, 1 Optical, and floppy. Leave network interface
enabled but unnconnected. After the OS is working you can connect
additional devices (one by one) and let XP detect them.

DO NOT CONNECT THE NETWORK until SP2 is complete and you have a firewall
up. SP1 and earlier machines are vulnerable to attack! Some say in as
little as 1 minute they'll catch a nasty!
