Problems with the sound card

Hello,
I have problems with the sound card drivers. The driver is installed, a part
from it I have Windows XP Pro with SP2 installed and I can listen to music
but I can´t control the volumen centre, neither start a conversation in the
messenger, as it tells me that non audio device is installed.
I have tried to download the latest version of my driver in Windows Update,
but it doesn´t work.
What can I do?

Never rely on driver updates for Windows Update web site.

Locate the manufacturer's web site and download the currect XP drivers.
These should have all the controls enabled.
