problems with the memory card readers

I have a computer with several memory card readers (compact flash, smart
media, Sony). Unfortunately, my young brother removed one card without
ejecting it fisrt, he says because it was not working!
Now I cannot access any of the readers and they have disappeared from My
Computer. I have windows XP.
Can you help me? Can I re-install them and how?

Hi,

Is it USB? If so, disconnect it, reboot, then reconnect it. That usually
works for me, when the computer doesn`t see the USB device.

It isn;t a USB device, but likely 24 hours later has started working again!.
