problems with ntoskrnl.exe in start up

Hi All

I have a DISK I/O errir : status = 00001000 error

Windows 2000 root>\system 32\ntoskrnl.exe

Windows 2000 could not start because the following file
is missing or corrupt... i.e. ntoskrnl.exe It tells me
to re-install a copy of the above file.

Sadly I am unable to reinstall the file. I am unable to
edit my boot.ini file which after researching I thought
it would help if I edited that. I have not got a repair
disk, nor can I get into Safe Mode. I have managed to
make some setup disks and can get into my C: drive, etc..
but am unable to do anything else.

Please can anyone give me some advice how I can get my
system back up and running within having to do a total
install. I did read that editing the Boot.ini file would
help.

Many thanks.... kind regards Amanda

Boot your machine with your Win2000 CD, select "Repair"
when prompted, then select "Command Console". This
will give you access to c:\boot.ini.

You could also rename the file "system" to "system.bad",
then "system.alt" to "system".
