Problems with new Terminal Server Installation

L

Linda

I have the following drives mapped on a terminal server:
H:\users home directories
I:\ application directory (server-based apps are run from
here)
J:\ shared directory

The problem: the J:\shared directory is duplicated on
every drive from J: to Z:. I have never seen this
before. What is causing this to happen?

Please email me with a solution or, at the very least, an
explanation.

Thank you.

Tony,

Thank you for your prompt response. Could you define
rouge scripts?

I am running Terminal server, without citrix on a Proliant
ML350 G3 Box with dual 3GHz processors and 2 GB RAM.
Operating system server 2000, sp4, build 2195.

Can you help?

Thank you,
Linda

I've never seen this happen for so many drives, but I
_have_ seen it happen with rogue scripts subst'ing them.
Do you get any response if you run SUBST from a command
prompt?
Can we have a bit more info? OS, patch level, is it just
a TS box, or is Citrix installed - if so, have the drive
letters been reallocated?

Hi Linda,

When I say a rogue script I mean one you didn't put in place - an admin could have messed one up or a dodgy application installation

I don't know about the rest of the newsgroup but personally I wouldn't put SP4 onto a TS environment - it's just too buggy. Stick with SP3 and hotfixes

Any luck with the subst

Hi Tony,

I installed the server and the apps. It is entirely
possible that I might've screwed one up. I am running
Corel Paradox and Office 97 on that server....dicey
installations.

When I run subst at the prompt I get W:\: =>H: Could this
be the issue???

Thank you,

Linda

Hi Linda

One drive subst'd shouldn't have caused your problem. It sounds to me more like a dodgy app might have something to do with it. If you right click network neighbourhood and map/disconnect a network drive, do the drives all show up there

If you want to email me (might be quicker), you can get me direct at (e-mail address removed) (change the _dot_ for .

Tony,

Belay that last message on the server in question I get
the following when I run the subst command:

W:\: =c:\documents and settings\username
I should be seeing w:\: =>H:\

This is a mess I made when I set up the W drive for office
97 installion script. So how do I fix it. This is a
production server????

Thank you in advance for all your help.

Linda

It's hard to say from a distance. It sounds like the script did something it wasn't intended to...which one was it? Can you email it to me
