Problems with MS-DOS Programs

A

arturo

I copied my files from 2000 to XP and 2 programs,
Peachtree Complete for DOS version 11 and a custom
program are not running on the new computer. The
Peachtree program gives me a System Error 75 and the
custom costing and estimating program tells me that there
is an UNIDENTIFIED IDENTIFIER. Both occur when the
programs load from executable menus.

I already changed the files to 100 in the config.nt
program.

Also I can't see my other computers in the network from
one of them.

*PLEASE REPLY IN NEWSGROUP THREAD*

Going by what you wrote, you "COPIED the files..."

Does that mean you installed the applications and then using whatever method
given to you (available to you) through the given applications, exported
your data to the newly installed computer?

Peachtree, especially, is likely not to be moved by merely "copying files".

Interestingly enough, the DOS versions for Peachtree will
run in a DOS window under emulation. However, there may be
one or two autoexec.bat entries that also need to be set up
for the DOS window in order for Peachtree to run. This will
mean creating a specific *.PIF file for Peachtree that will
run these pre-requisites before Peachtree loads. Take a look
at Peachtree running on a pure DOS machine to determine what
these commands might be. (And BTW, as a Peachtree user from
way back, we do keep a DOS machine around just for the older
versions.)

Check settings in CONFIG.NT and AUTOEXEC.NT from the old 2000 box to
your XP Box. Common missing entires include missing FILES=40 entry
to allow multiple file openings etc.
